Eligibility for East Coast Railway Apprentice 2026
Age Limit
Applicants should be 15 to 24 years of age as on 15 September 2026.
Relaxation in the upper age limit is available as specified in the notification:
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC: 3 years
- PwBD: 10 years
- Ex-Servicemen: additional relaxation as per the notification.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must have passed Matriculation/Class 10 under the 10+2 system with at least 50% aggregate marks from a recognized Board.
In addition, candidates must possess an ITI certificate in the relevant trade, affiliated with NCVT/SCVT as applicable under the Apprentices Act.
For the Laboratory Technician (Pathology) trade, candidates must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology and the specified minimum marks in Class 10 and Class 12.
Engineering graduates and diploma holders are not eligible under this particular notification because they fall under a separate apprenticeship scheme.
Application Fee
The application fee is ₹100.
No fee is required from:
- SC candidates
- ST candidates
- PwBD candidates
- Women candidates
The fee is payable online through the integrated payment gateway during the application process.
East Coast Railway Apprentice Selection Process
There is no written examination or viva for this apprentice engagement.
The selection will be based on a merit list prepared using the percentage of marks obtained in Matriculation, subject to the prescribed minimum of 50%. In case candidates have equal marks, the older candidate will receive preference, with further preference based on the date of passing Matriculation if required.
Shortlisted candidates will subsequently be called for Document Verification and medical fitness requirements.

- NCVT/SCVT National Trade Certificate or provisional certificate

Important Note for Applicants
Candidates should submit only one application and carefully enter their personal information, trade, marks, Aadhaar details and preferred Division/Workshop. Incorrect information or discrepancies found during Document Verification can result in cancellation of candidature.
Also, selection as an apprentice does not guarantee a permanent job in Indian Railways after completion of training. The notification specifically states that there is no obligation on the employer to offer employment after apprenticeship training.
