Eligibility for NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A 2026

GATE Qualification

Candidates must have a valid GATE score in the relevant paper from GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026:

  • Computer Science and Information Technology — GATE CS
  • Electronics and Communication Engineering — GATE EC
  • Data Science and Artificial Intelligence — GATE DA

Educational Qualification

For Computer Sciences & Information Technology, candidates must possess an M.Sc./MS/MCA/B.E./B.Tech. in the specified fields, including Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Electronics, Electronics & Communication, Computer and Networking Security, Software System and Informatics, among others. A valid GATE CS score is also required.

For Electronics and Communication Engineering, the relevant qualification and GATE EC score are required.

For Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the relevant qualification and GATE DA score are required.

Experience: No experience is required for the post.

NIC STA-A Age Limit 2026

The upper age limit is calculated as on 30 September 2026.

NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A Application Fee

The application fee is:

  • UR/OBC (NCL)/EWS: ₹800
  • SC/ST/PwBD/Women: No fee

Candidates applying for more than one discipline have to pay ₹800 for each discipline. The fee is payable online and is non-refundable.

NIC STA-A Selection Process 2026

The selection process is primarily based on the candidate’s GATE score.

NIC will prepare a separate category-wise merit list for each discipline according to GATE scores. Equal weightage is given to GATE 2024, GATE 2025 and GATE 2026 scores. Candidates must submit their best eligible GATE score.

Candidates shortlisted according to the vacancies will be called for Document Verification. Provisional appointment will be offered after successful verification and fulfillment of the prescribed conditions.
