Indian Navy Recruitment 2026: Comprehensive Guide for Agniveer (SSR, MR) and SSR Medical Positions
The Indian Navy has officially released the recruitment notification for the 01/2027 and 02/2027 batches, inviting energetic and patriotic unmarried candidates to join its ranks. This recruitment drive is a significant opportunity for young men and women to serve in a “Combat Ready, Cohesive, and Aatmanirbhar” force dedicated to safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests. Whether you are a high school graduate or a diploma holder, the Navy offers various pathways including the Agniveer scheme and specialized medical roles.
Detailed Eligibility and Academic Requirements
The recruitment is divided into three primary categories, each with its own set of standards designed to ensure the highest quality of personnel.
1. Agniveer (Senior Secondary Recruit – SSR)
This role is the backbone of the Navy’s technical and operational strength. Candidates must have qualified in their 10+2 examination with Mathematics and Physics as mandatory subjects. A minimum of 50% aggregate marks is required from a recognized board. Alternatively, the Navy accepts candidates with a three-year Diploma in Engineering branches such as Mechanical, Electrical, Automobiles, Computer Science, or Instrumentation Technology, provided they secured 50% marks. Those with a two-year vocational course including Physics and Mathematics are also eligible.
2. Agniveer (Matric Recruit – MR)
For those looking to enter the service after high school, the MR category offers roles such as Chef, Steward, and Hygienist. Applicants must have passed their Matriculation (10th) examination with at least 50% aggregate marks. This entry is vital for the logistical and internal management of naval vessels and establishments.
3. SSR (Medical Branch)
This specialized entry is currently open exclusively for unmarried male candidates. The academic requirements are specific: a 10+2 qualification with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB). Candidates must have achieved a minimum of 50% aggregate marks and at least 40% in each individual subject. This ensures that the medical staff assisting the Navy’s healthcare professionals are academically proficient.
Age Brackets and Important Timelines
Age eligibility is strictly enforced based on the specific batch. For the 01/2027 Batch (SSR/MR), candidates must be born between 01 December 2004 and 31 May 2009. For the 02/2027 Batch (SSR/MR/SSR Med), the birth date must fall between 01 May 2005 and 31 October 2009. Both the start and end dates are inclusive.
The application window is brief, requiring candidates to be proactive. Online registrations begin on 14 March 2026 and will conclude on 06 April 2026 at 17:00 HRS. It is highly recommended to complete the registration early to avoid technical issues due to heavy website traffic. A correction window will be available on 10 and 11 April 2026 for minor edits to the submitted forms.
Career Progression and Financial Benefits
The Agniveer Package
Agniveers serve for a duration of four years. During the first year, the customized monthly package is ₹30,000, which progressively increases to ₹40,000 by the fourth year. Upon completion of the four-year tenure, individuals receive the Seva Nidhi package, which amounts to approximately ₹10.04 Lakh. This sum is tax-free and intended to help the individual transition into civilian life or start a business. Crucially, up to 25% of each batch will be selected for permanent enrollment in the Indian Navy as regular sailors.
SSR Medical Pay Scale
Unlike the four-year Agniveer term, SSR Medical sailors are enrolled for a longer duration and fall under the standard Defence Pay Matrix. They are placed in Level 3 (₹21,700 – ₹69,100) and receive an additional Military Service Pay (MSP) of ₹5,200 plus applicable allowances. This role offers long-term career stability and pension benefits upon retirement.
The Selection Strategy
The Indian Navy employs a rigorous two-stage selection process to identify the best talent.
Stage I: Indian Navy Entrance Test (INET) This is a computer-based examination. For SSR and SSR Medical candidates, the test consists of 100 questions covering English, Science, Mathematics (or Biology for Med entry), and General Awareness. MR candidates face 50 questions focusing on Science, Mathematics, and General Awareness. Every incorrect answer results in a penalty of 0.25 marks.
Stage II: Physical Fitness and Finals Candidates shortlisted from the INET will undergo a Physical Fitness Test (PFT). This includes a 1.6 km run, squats (Uthak Baithak), push-ups, and sit-ups. The timing and repetition requirements vary slightly between male and female candidates. Following the PFT, a recruitment medical examination is conducted to ensure the candidate meets the strict physical standards required for life at sea.
